A major new announcement for us at our IoD conference was the availability of "IBM Data Studio", for managing the lifecycle of data. Creation, use in code, even obsolescence (archiving in some cases). This is significant because the cost structure of large data centric organizations is no longer in the store and retrieve of data (i.e. traditional database capabilities), but in actual management of the information (see my post)-- i.e. its lifecycle. As the spend has shifted, so has our strategy. This is another capability of ours that has Curt Cotner, our IBM Fellow in databases, written all over it.
It will soon be available for download (free), on all of IBM's database, and we will expand to cover other databases too. Watch this space.
